Barton Club Lambs began in the early 1980's as a small addition to Jimmy's successful show program. In the early 1990's two key acquisitions were made that accelerated our program and laid out our path to success through the late 90's and into the new century. Sun Country Hamps (Jim Davis) was acquired in 1993-94 in two separate purchases and then Savage Club Lambs (Dale Chote/Buzz Cooper) was acquired in January 1995. The Savage purchase included a young ram by the name of "Smokey". Of course the rest is history as "Smokey" went on to be one of the premier sires of the late 90's. His lambs topped sales in Oklahoma and Texas and won many purple banners. His sons, grandsons, and daughters continue to influence not only our flock but many club lamb flocks across the U.S. As the Hampshire popularity began to take place around 2001 here in the state of Texas, a change was needed here at Barton Club Lambs. The demand arose for white pelted sheep with hamp breed character. We began to introduce Hampshire rams into our breeding program in the fall of 2002. In the spring of 2004 an unexpected yet welcome acquisition took place. We purchased the entire Brad Smith flock. This included all the ewes and the lambs born that year. Out of that flock (primarily Cabaniss breeding) we were able to extract the ingredients for what we think is a tremendous wether sire breeding program. This flock included many "Caesar" daughters. It also included a Cabaniss wether sire "Streak" (deceased) that has been a very key piece to our program. We are currently using a "Streak" son (Resistol) and grandson (Cinch) that we think will both be very influential and successful wether sires. We are also still very involved with the "Caesar" genetic line as we have a longstanding relationship with Shrank Club Lambs (David Garrett). We are able to breed several ewes every year to "Caesar" and put "Caesar" sons and daughters to work back in the flock. Our goal here at Barton Club Lambs is to produce highly competitive wether lambs as well as offer a select set of breeding stock to club lamb producers. We would like to invite you personally to visit our farm at your convenience and let us give you a tour of our facilities and our flock.
